Home and Community Services

Can you imagine what it must be like to not be able to do the simplest of tasks due to a mental or physical disability? Can you imagine having to depend on a family member or another person for all of your needs? At MDRS, we understand the pressures and constraints this can have on an individual and their families. Our staff is committed to each individual’s unique situation and determining their needs in reaching their maximum independence.

Home and community services are provided to individuals with the most severe disabilities to promote self-sufficiency and quality of life regardless of their immediate potential for employment. An individual who is eligible is one who has a severe disability that constitutes multiple barriers to the individual’s capacity to live independently and exhibits a strong likelihood that the individual will be able to live significantly more independent at home, avoiding institutionalization.

Through a variety of limited funding sources, MDRS is able to provide the following services:

  • Durable medical equipment
  • Home and vehicle modifications
  • Peer counseling
  • Personal care services
  • Respite services
  • Assistive technology devices

These services are provided through the Office of Special Disability Programs and Independent Living Services for the Blind.
